  • The Collier Trophy was awarded to Charles J. McCarthy and associates of Chance Vought Aircraft, Inc. and Vice Adm. James S. Russell and associates of the U.S. Navy Bureau of Aeronautics, for conception, design, and development of the F8U Crusader.
