• The Battle of Midway Island took place on June 4-5, 1942 and was a US victory. This battle was also the turning point of naval dominance in the Pacific during World War II.
   
• On April 18 Lt.. Col. James H. Doolittle led the first air raid on Tokyo using 16 North American B-25 bombers launched from the carrier USS Hornet.
